Why we call Austin home

Texas Rowing Center — High Performance is comprised of athletes from all over the country.

We came to Austin because of the beautiful body of water and the culture of support, inclusion, and performance at Texas Rowing Center.

A gateway between the Austin community and the water.

TRC is a rowing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle board (SUP) concession located in downtown Austin. They are located across from Austin High School right along the Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail.

Throughout the year, TRC rents out tens of thousands of paddle boards and kayaks to help anyone and everyone enjoy the river. Alongside that, the dock is also free for public access and launching.

The rowing club is an arm of TRC that hosts rowers of all ages. There are coaches and racing teams for everyone — Juniors through Masters.

Until now, TRC has not had a coach or program dedicated to developing post-collegiate athletes for the national team and beyond.

Lady Bird Lake

To row, you need water. A lot of it.

Lady Bird Lake is an ideal training location. For years, colleges and high schools have travelled here for winter and spring break training trips to take advantage of these ideal conditions.

Running straight through the heart of Austin, there is an 8.5 km stretch of protected water between Red Bud Isle and Longhorn Dam.

Finding a long body of water without much wind or current makes for great training. We can row continuously for over 30 minutes in one direction, then spin and do it again, and again…

Innovation in Austin

Austin is booming.

Austin combines the dreams and innovation of the modern tech world with a sense of self-reliance and hardiness that Texas is known for. We are here to contribute to that energy.

Rowing in the United States has been run the same way for a while. With the creation of this training center, we’re setting a new standard for dedication, professionalism, and performance for American rowers.

At the end of the day, though, it is up to each individual athlete to put in the work. In a sport like rowing, which demands high skill and immense aerobic capacity, that work takes years. With the support of our community, TRC HP is helping athletes put in the highest quality work through those years.
